Player Points Calculation Issue
Several seasons ago the formula used to calculate player points was revised to balance out the two levels of buy-in, which were, and still are, £5 and £10.
In the interests of fairness part of the formula uses the initial buy-in to equalise the imbalance in prize money between the two tournaments.
However in recent times many of our venues have upgraded to a single re-buy and the formula does not include the second buy in, so effectively the prize money is increased whilst the stake based on the initial buy-in has not, thus skewing the points in favour of the re-buy tournaments.
For example if a 16 seater £10 Buy-In produces £160 prize money the points total is divided by 10, yet if a £5 Rebuy creates the same prize fund the total points will only be divided by 5 and this is further complicated by the fact that not all players re-buy so the total cost of the buy-in can be different for each player.
Whilst within an individual league this won’t be an issue because it is the same for all players the Global League will be affected.
After much experimentation I have managed to create a revised formula to re-balance the points but because of the amount of work involved in revising the whole season’s results I have decided to to implement the formula from week 12 BUT leave the previous crop of results unaltered. I also propose to introduce the formula to the Pest Tec King of the Road series of events.
This will now mean that player points in a £5 rebuy will be divided by 10 IF the player re-buys but only by 5 should they not. Single Buy-In Tournaments will not be affected.
My apologies for this oversight and my thanks to Mark Head for being the smart arse who created this gargantuan work load after he spotted the imbalance.

The Harrogate Poker League (HPL) is a Texas Hold em Poker competition played in pubs and clubs in and around the Harrogate area and will start its fifteenth season (HPL XVI) on Sunday 13th November 2016.
Each tournament is professionally run by trained tournament directors and prizes are paid in cash as all the entry fees are returned to the participants.
In addition to those cash prizes for each event, a points system forms the basis of a league table for each venue and a global table encompasses every fixture throughout the twenty eight week season.
Qualifiers from these tables are invited to a FREE end of season poker extravaganza where trophies are presented and substantial cash prizes can be won.
Congratulations to Dom Gil, who was crowned
Harrogate Poker Champion for HPL XV
Congratulations to Domninc Gil
The New Harrogate Poker Champion
Dominic held off the spirited challenge of Alex Almond to secure the title on an excellent night at Park Place Social Club in Knaresborough.
Despite starting with the big stack Dominic had to ride out one or two hits during the final table before winning a thrilling heads up with his nearest challenger Alex.
Dom becomes our fourteenth different winner in the fifteenth season of the Harrogate Poker League, once again proving how difficult it has become to retain or win the titlle twice in what has become a very competitive and high quality poker league.

The Fantasy Poker league
The Fantasy Poker League is now unfortunately no longer unique, however we do believe we were the first poker league anywhere in the poker world to provide this competition for its members.
Sponsored by our colleagues at EPS in Harrogate the Fantasy Poker League is a competition based loosely around the football dream team principles run in the national press where each manager is given an imaginary fund to buy football players who are given points based on their performances in the English Premier League. This competition has a double barreled prize fund with half providing prizes for the top finishers in the league and the other half funding a FREEROLL poker tournament for all the managers who take part.
