The Harrogate Poker League Season 14
With the new season starting on Sunday 9th August, plans are already well underway to make the Harrogate Poker league a better place to play with bigger and better rewards for player loyalty.
Enhancements for the HPL XIV Programme
· Additional Survivor Chips
· Reduction in Fixtures
· New Loyalty Rewards
· Improved Roadshow Structure
· Mini-Leagues to Reward More Players
Increase of Survivor Chips:
Since the introduction of the survivor chips the blinds structure has changed and this has had a detrimental effect on the impact of the survivor chips. In order to combat that from HPL XIV 20k will be awarded at the break. Whilst in some cases this is equivalent to 60% of the starting stack, the main relevance is that it is equivalent to 5 Big Blinds after the restart.
To qualify for this bonus players must be SAT AT THE TABLE BEFORE A CARD IS DEALT IN LEVEL THREE.
Reduction in Fixtures:
Fixtures will be reduced as at least two tournaments are confirmed removed from net season’s calendar, the High Harrogate Tuesday & the Harlow Hill Friday will no longer take part. With one current exception that will mean that on any given night there will only be one tournament in each region, these being Harrogate, Starbeck, Knaresborough, Wetherby & Otley.
Currently the most popular events are the weekend roadshows, which of course can only be staged at venues with the appropriate licenses i.e. working men’s and private members clubs, but this situation does not help to improve the attendances at our weekday venues. In order to combat that imbalance the HPL will introduce a unique & revolutionary idea aimed at improving overall attendances and rewarding venue loyalty. A new incentive scheme will be implemented which will reward players a £5 roadshow voucher for each EIGHT attendances at any particular venue.
Essentially this means that over the twenty eight week season all players could be rewarded with £15 for playing 24 tournaments at the same venue. Theoretically this should encourage the players who enjoy the weekend roadshows to attend the weekday events whilst also enhancing the attendances at the roadshows. There will be plenty of opportunities for players to use the vouchers and with a time limit imposed on their usage the scheme will be re-launched at the start of each new season.
Improved Roadshow Structure including Mini Leagues:
There will be a total of 19 roadshows over the season which includes the finals night series, the Xmas Festival and the Team Challenge. These events aside the remaining twelve roadshows will form three mini leagues each of four tournaments and the winners of each will receive a trophy. However the top SIX players from each of the three mini leagues will be invited to an 18 seater final with a £20 buy-in and £240 added creating a £600.00 prize fund. The first prize will carry a £200 Cash Prize and the Lunns Blinds King of the Road Trophy.
The Harrogate Poker League (HPL) is a Texas Hold em Poker competition played in pubs and clubs in and around the Harrogate area and will start its thirteenth season (HPL XIII) on Sunday 4th January 2015.
Each tournament is professionally run by trained tournament directors and prizes are paid in cash as all the entry fees are returned to the participants.
In addition to those cash prizes for each event, a points system forms the basis of a league table for each venue and a global table encompasses every fixture throughout the twenty week season.
Qualifiers from these tables are invited to a FREE end of season poker extravaganza where trophies are presented and substantial cash prizes can be won.
Congratulations to Adam Wagstaff, who was crowned
Harrogate Poker Champion for HPL XII

The Fantasy Poker league
The Fantasy Poker League is now unfortunately no longer unique, however we do believe we were the first poker league anywhere in the poker world to provide this competition for its members.
Sponsored by our colleagues at EPS in Harrogate the Fantasy Poker League is a competition based loosely around the football dream team principles run in the national press where each manager is given an imaginary fund to buy football players who are given points based on their performances in the English Premier League. This competition has a double barreled prize fund with half providing prizes for the top finishers in the league and the other half funding a FREEROLL poker tournament for all the managers who take part. If you wish to enter a team the closing date is 29th December 2014 and an application form can be downloaded form the link below.
