Player Points Calculation Issue
Several seasons ago the formula used to calculate player points was revised to balance out the two levels of buy-in, which were, and still are, £5 and £10.
In the interests of fairness part of the formula uses the initial buy-in to equalise the imbalance in prize money between the two tournaments.
However in recent times many of our venues have upgraded to a single re-buy and the formula does not include the second buy in, so effectively the prize money is increased whilst the stake based on the initial buy-in has not, thus skewing the points in favour of the re-buy tournaments.
For example if a 16 seater £10 Buy-In produces £160 prize money the points total is divided by 10, yet if a £5 Rebuy creates the same prize fund the total points will only be divided by 5 and this is further complicated by the fact that not all players re-buy so the total cost of the buy-in can be different for each player.
Whilst within an individual league this won’t be an issue because it is the same for all players the Global League will be affected.
After much experimentation I have managed to create a revised formula to re-balance the points but because of the amount of work involved in revising the whole season’s results I have decided to to implement the formula from week 12 BUT leave the previous crop of results unaltered. I also propose to introduce the formula to the Pest Tec King of the Road series of events.
This will now mean that player points in a £5 rebuy will be divided by 10 IF the player re-buys but only by 5 should they not. Single Buy-In Tournaments will not be affected.
My apologies for this oversight and my thanks to Mark Head for being the smart arse who created this gargantuan work load after he spotted the imbalance.
